Barton’s Parish Council plays a role in almost every aspect of life in the village.  The administration is allocated among a number of committees reporting to the main council.  These are Burial grounds, Environment, General purposes, Leisure, Sports Field, Policies & Resources. There is some overlap but the committees responsible are indicated below

Committee

Allotments.  Barton’s fertile Soil provides ideal conditions for growing one’s own health-giving vegetables.  The Hexton Road Site is owned by the Parish Council, and is run by a small committee of holders.

Leisure

Children’s Playgrounds - Three Sites: On Arnold Field, Behind the Co-op and off Norman Road.  The latter is owned by the Parish Council

Leisure

Burial Ground - Owned and maintained by the Parish council, catering for all faiths.

Burial Ground

Open Spaces - The largest is Arnold Field, leased from the Arnold Trust. Then there are the playing fields off the Luton Road. Lime Close is the last fragment of Barton’s common land. Bailey’s Piece is bequeathed to and maintained by the Parish Council
